I drive a delivery van for a local company and I make drops in a lot of Utah and Idaho cities. As I travel Idaho, I notice a lot of Utah drivers at the lottery locations. I, too, am guilty of dropping a few dollars and usually lose. I do win a few dollars here and there, but I figure I drop an average of $15 a month. (I can afford to lose this discretionary money.) But that is not my point.
I cannot for the life of me understand why the people of Utah don't put the lottery question on the ballot. I assume it would carry by a large percentage. But, be that as it may, it most likely won't happen, as the politicians rule on issues not decided by the public at large, and they are influenced by the opinions of the major religious group.
So, as Idaho gladly accepts my $15 to help its schools, I am sure it hopes that Utah will continue to ignore a very profitable activity and let Utah money flow to Idaho.
