Prep Hoops Roundup: Sanders' 29 points lead Davis boys past East

SALT LAKE CITY — Josh Sanders scored 29 points, including a 13-of-14 mark from the free-throw line, as Davis improved to 6-1 with a 73-58 win at East on Thursday.

Tyson Garff added 18 points for the Darts. Trevan Leonhardt and Trey Grossenbach each scored eight.

Davis shot 23 of 24 from the charity stripe.

FREMONT 59, ALTA 54

ST. GEORGE—Dallin Hall scored a team-high 18 points and Baylor Harrop added 16 as Fremont beat Alta in St. George. The Silver Wolves also got nine points from Kyler Bush.

Fremont led 31-25 at halftime and held off a fourth-quarter surge by the Hawks.

CLEARFIELD 55, JUDGE MEMORIAL 38

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield trailed 11-8 heading after the first quarter, then outscored Judge Memorial 13-0 in the second frame in the Falcons’ home win.

Clearfield built on a 21-11 halftime lead in the second half, finishing the game by scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Carter Buchi scored a game-best 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting for the Falcons. Grayson Banks added 13 points with seven rebounds.

GREEN CANYON 71, ROY 64

ST. GEORGE — Ben McBride led Roy with 24 points in the loss, 18 of which came in the second half.

Alex Lamb chipped in 15 points for Roy. Green Canyon made 10 3-pointers in the game, which was tied 30-30 at halftime.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

FREMONT 62, SKY VIEW 49

PLAIN CITY — Fremont raced to a 27-3 lead early in the second quarter and the Silver Wolves beat Sky View to improve to 5-2 this season.

The big lead was enough to withstand a late surge by the Bobcats, who closed the deficit to 54-42 midway through the fourth quarter.

Freshman Emma Calvert led Fremont with 15 points, 10 of which came in the first half. Berkley Larsen and Haylee Doxey scored 13 points each.

Sky View’s Kristen Schumann led all scorers with 24 points, 19 coming in the second half.

DAVIS 51, WEST 50

KAYSVILLE — Davis outscored West 31-12 across the second and third quarters to grab a close home win. The Darts trailed 15-5 after the first quarter.

Valerie Kunzler led Davis with 15 points and Sarandon Chino added 10.

BONNEVILLE 55, BEAR RIVER 52

GARLAND — Bonneville outscored Bear River 20-15 in the fourth quarter to win a close road game.

Talia Afuvai led the Lakers with 21 points and Mikaela Johnson scored 12.

Bear River’s Rachel Fronk led all scorers with 23 points.

BINGHAM 75, CLEARFIELD 46

SOUTH JORDAN — Bingham outscored Clearfield 29-13 in the second quarter following a 7-7 tie after one quarter.

Haylie Anderson led Clearfield with 13 points to go with three rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Kiersten Boyack scored 12 points and Jill Thalman added 11.

MOUNTAIN CREST 51, OGDEN 40

OGDEN — Makin Clarke led Ogden with 13 points and Aleah Knowles had 10 but the Tigers fell at home.

Ogden trailed by just one point, 35-34, heading to the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs won the game with a 16-6 advantage in the final frame.

WATERFORD 34, ST. JOSEPH 32 (2OT)

SANDY — Waterford scored 22 points in the fourth quarter after trailing 18-7 to send the game to overtime.

The Ravens and Jayhawks were tied 32-32 after the first overtime, then Waterford outscored St. Joseph 2-0 in the second and final overtime. St. Joseph led 4-0 after the first quarter and 7-5 at halftime.

Gracie Fergus had 10 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for St. Joseph. Virginia Tomon had eight points and 11 rebounds.
